Overview
Learn what mentorship is, what a typical mentorship looks like on the platform, and how you can make sure your mentorship is a success.
Whether this is your first formal mentorship or if you’re a veteran mentor / mentee, this article contains some useful tips and will guide you through how mentorship works on the platform.
You’ll also learn how to join the mentoring program on your site and what you can do once you’ve joined!
Join a program
Note - if you're joining a program via an invitation link, you can skip this step and just use the link to go directly to the program and join.
Browse programs
On the "Mentoring Programs" tab (may be titled differently on your platform!), you'll see program tiles with names and summaries for each program. Click on a program to learn more about it or join.
Learn about and join program
On the program homepage, you'll see an About section (2) where you can learn more about the theme of the program and what your responsibilities as a member would be.
Click the green "Join Program" button to start registration for the program. Then follow the steps to answer the registration questions.
Await approval
After registering, you may need to await approval by your program admins. We'll send you an email when your registration has been approved!
Once you've been approved to join the program, you'll have access to rest of the program, including the Discussion, Resources, and Events tabs.
Mentors
If you’re a mentee, you may see a "Mentors" tab. On this tab, you'll be able to browse through potential mentors and "Favorite" mentors you'd like your site admins to consider matching you up with. Depending on how your program is set up, you may even be able to actually initiate mentorships yourself.
Don't see this tab? No worries - that just means your program admins will be matching you up with a mentor, so you don't need to look for one.
Learn more about the process of connecting or being matched with a mentor in this article:
Discussion
The discussion tab is a place you can learn from others in the program or share your knowledge! On it, you can:
- Ask questions (anonymously or as yourself)
- Answer questions
- Browse existing questions and answers
The Discussion tab for your program functions the same way as the hub-wide Discussion tab.
Learn more about how to use the Discussion tab here.
Resources
Your program Resources tab contains tips for being a great mentor/mentee as well as resources specific to your program. These resources are exclusively visible to members of the program, but the Resources tab itself functions in much the same way as hub-wide Resources.
Learn more about using Resources here.
Events
On the Events tab in your program, you'll be able to register for upcoming events exclusive to your program.
The program Events tab functions much the same as the site-wide Events tab.
Learn more about how to register for Events here.
